Some Stats About Alzheimer' Disease
• Currently, almost 20,000 Manitobans have Alzheimer's disease or another dementia.
This number is expected to grow at an alarming rate. If nothing changes, more than 34,000
Manitobans will have dementia by the year 2038.
• Last year alone, there were over 4,300 new cases of Alzheimer's disease or another dementia in
Manitoba. In 2038, this number is expected to rise dramatically to over 9,350 a year.
• The total economic burden of dementia inManitobais 885 million dollars and this number is
expected to rise to 4.4 billion by the year 2038.
• Today, caregivers spend over 9 million hours of informal unpaid care. By the year 2038, the hours
of informal unpaid care are expected to exceed 22 million.
• One in three Manitobans have a family member or close personal friend with Alzheimer's disease
or another dementia.
• Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, making up sixty-five percent of all
forms of dementia.
• Sixty-four percent of Manitobans with Alzheimer’s disease are women.
