Aging and Changes in the Body

Aging and Changes in the Body
Aging is a normal process that is inevitable, predictable and affects the body physically, socially and psychologically. Changes in cell structure, chemical activity and hormone production are some of the examples of changes which affect body physically. Thinking, performance, behavior and personality can be affected by psychological changes. Physiological and psychological changes also affect sociological behavior.

According to Psychosocial Theory: As people grow older, their behavior changes, their social interactions change, and the activities in which they engage change. Social support systems, status of health, financial resources, education, and life experiences are some factors that influence how individuals cope with aging. It is very important for caregivers to understand what conditions to expect with the aging process and we are going to look at some of the issues facing seniors.

Please watch this lovely video "The art of Aging:Celebrating the Authentic Aging Self"- by Alice & Richard Matzkin.
A couple, both artists, take a penetrating look at aging through a series of projects that confront their fear and curiosity about growing old. They explore physical changes, sensuality and relationships, aging parents, spirituality and death. Drawing on their personal experiences and the wisdom of older mentors, they conclude that their elder years can be a time of ripening and harvest rather than stagnation and despair. The profusely illustrated book contains a wealth of inspiration, especially for those about to enter old age.
