Handi-Transit Changes


Handi-Transit is looking at making some drastic changes to their cancellation and “no show” policies, which could have significant impact regarding one’s independent flexibility of comings and goings. 

Here is a summary from the MLPD transportation committee of the proposed changes Handi-Transit is looking at implementing:



- Increasing cancellation window from 30 minutes to 90 minutes

- Escalation of charges with a “January to June” window and “July to December” window:

·         1st No Show – no charge (reminder letter sent)

·         2nd No Show – the equivalent of two adult cash fares

·         3rd No Show – the equivalent of three adult cash fares

·         4th No Show – the equivalent of four adult cash fares

·         5th and Further No Shows – equivalent of four adult cash fares + $10.00

·         Amount owing exceeds $30.00 – suspension of service until paid

·         Scheduled trips for the remainder of the day are cancelled by Handi-Transit after the first No Show occurs –the equivalent of one adult cash fare for each cancel

- Incentive:  Registrants who do not incur No Show or Cancellation fees for 20 trips will be credited the equivalent of two adult cash fares

- Handi-Transit will provide a scheduled pick-up time for all trip requests which includes a pick-up window requiring the passenger to be at the ground floor level at the pick-up location ten (10) minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time and up to ten (10) minutes after the scheduled pick-up

- Any subscription with more than four (4) charges for No Show or Cancellations in a calendar month will be suspended and the registrant will have to book trips by reservation and are not eligible for a subscription for the next 12 months.
